Happy Holidays

I cant believe we are just about to close for the Christmas Holidays. December has been a very long month. Hooray for2 days off.

We would like to wish all our Customers and Blog Readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Georgie found some wooden spoons and with a little paint some buttons, favours out of Christmas crackers and some christmas confetti she made a Christmas wall hanging she says it's good to play it has made a good start to her christmas break.

The shop will be closed until the 2nd January (I know I said we were having 2 days off but the shop needs some major reorganisation those of you that have seen it in the last few weeks will understand the word major) and workshops recommence on Monday 6th January 2013. The workshop programme can be found on the link above.

May you be blessed with the joy of the season

Workshop dates 2014.

I have just up loaded the workshop dates for the new Year.

As normal where did the time go between posts.  I know, but I am not sure that you would like to read the long list, but most of it has been fun.  The new website is close to going live in the new year.

Georgie has given me half the journaling classes to do, as most of my art work now goes in my journals.  My favourite is my 'Note to Self' journal, I thought I would give you a couple of pictures for inspiration.  I find it easier to create if I have a theme.  Journaling classes in general are very popular, for me they are great places just to play, try new ideas and clear the mind for a short while.  For some its a place for storing thoughts etc. What every your reason for journaling, enjoy.  If you live close to Sheffield why not join us for a workshop.

Some of these are on my blog with a little more description, but sometime it is just nice to look.

Happy days.

Dorrie

Dorrie says

That I must take photos when I completing a project so I can post how it's done. I know I should but I get into the zone and the project completes it's self before I even think to get the camera out. This time the camera was placed next to me I managed a few photos of my latest journal page while in progress. I used black gesso to cover the page and then wanted to use some old rub ons from my stash.

I added the rub ons top left and right and bottom right of the page.

I had a quote about dreams that I wanted to use.I tried writing it with a white paint pen twice but didn't like it as I felt that it was too thick, I gessoed it out and the third time I used a white gel pen, which I liked better, Re-gessoing the page made a different background effect from where I started sort of like a blackboard that has been wiped clean, which I quite like.

I then used a white pen and silver pen to outline some of the flower rubons and added a couple ore rub ons to complete the page.

Until next time happy Crafting from

Journal page

It seems a long time since we posted on this blog. We are in our summer workshop break and I am suppose to be updating the Autumn workshop list, but I am skiving and playing with journal pages it really helps to restore my mental wealth. The page below has remained unfinished in my small journal since June, but I think is now finished. I was playing with distress paint and thinking of different ways to apply it. I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with the background when I completed hence the wait before the page was completed. In the end I kept it simple. The words are not very clear in the picture, but it is from one Dylusions word stamps that says I'm currently unsupervised ...and the possibilities are endless.!! In our household Mouse has changed it to Grandad is currently unsupervised and the possibilities are dangerous.

I will work on the new workshop list tonight and have it up on the blog at the beginning of next week in the meantime I hope you are all enjoying your summer.

And the winner is

Thank you to everyone who visited us at the Ross Paper crafts show at Don Valley Stadium on Sunday it was great to see old and new faces.

Many of you left your contact details so we could send you our new newsletter.  All the contacts were placed in a prize draw and Mouse has picked one of the contacts to receive a Art Impressions Girlfriends Stamp. We took a photo of Mouse picking the winner but due to technical difficulties I can't up load the photo tonight. I will try again tomorrow. Any how without further ado the winner is Joanne Richmond and the stamp is on it's way to her.

Our first newsletter will be winging it's way to all contacts at the end of this month.

In the meantime keep crafting

Happy Spring

While Georgie Preps this weeks Journal class, I used my few minutes spare to upload my Happy Spring tag to my blog (see here for details of how to etc).

Then remembered I said I would upload a picture of last weeks tag class, opps.

So here are a few photos

In class there is enough time to make the tag book and decorate a page or 2.

Add a few pictures, embellishments or a few favourite sayings/poems and you have a beautiful gift.

Georgie is finishing this one off with pictures of Tally's skating competitions.

She says she will show (finish) soon.

I am sure this chilly weather is an excellent reason to stay in the warm and do a little more crafting.

Happy Mothering Sunday

Back in the dim and distant past when Dorrie and I were little girls we would receive a small posy of flowers on Mothering Sunday to give our mother. Our mother is no longer with us but I still remember her love of those flowers.

To all those mothers still by our sides and those smiling down on us is a little card to say thank you for all you    do and have done to help us be who we are today.

I had a scrap left over so I made a little bookmark tag as well.

So mother be lazy and get the kids to cook the Sunday dinner while you keep crafting

But is it really work

Dorrie has been working away at finishing her project this afternoon. She is calling it work(it is a slow afternoon in cold and rainy Sheffield and she has done some of the jobs on her list so I will let her call playing work). As far as I can tell it is still a work in progress. Here is the latest progress.

Have a crafty weekend

News flash

No not a complete project but Dorrie has decided on what background she is going to finish! So far she has completed 3 layers of background using Distress Paint and Dylusions paint. She now tells me she knows how she is going to finish her project so watch this. I will keep nagging her for updates.

Distress Paints and New Dylusions colours have arrived in store

I love opening deliveries, the excitement of finding out what has arrived and what you are still waiting for. I can confirm that we have opened the boxes which contained our shipment of Tim Holtz new Distressed Paints and Dyan Reaveley Dylusions Ink Sprays.
Both sell for £4.99.

Distress Paint comes in 24 colours from the distress Range, Picket Fence, Black Soot, Weathered Wood, Salty Ocean, Chipped Sapphire,  Broken China, Peeled Paint, Bundled sage(my favorite , Mowed Lawn, Forest Moss, Antique Linen, Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain, Frayed Burlap, Spiced Marmalade, Wild Honey, Rusty Hinge, Mustard seed, Victorian Velvet, Seedless Preserve, Spun Sugar Picked Raspberry, Barn Door, Fired Brick.

Dorrie's challange was to complete a project using the distress paint for the blog, as some of you know she calls herself the background queen and so far we only have backgrounds(lots of backgrounds on all sorts of surfaces) When I have rained her in to complete a project I will insert a photo. No body hold your breath she doesn't like to work to dead lines and currently she has just opened a new journal and is busily spraying Dylusions and spreading and dabbing and smooshing Distress paint Oh no here comes the heat gun.

My challenge was to complete a project with the new Dylusions colours. You have to love them just for their names, but they are also a great product. The new colours are Calypso Teal. White Linen, Dirty Martini(my favourite), Funky Fuchsia, Cherry Pie and After Midnight.

I made a couple of tags with a fashion theme. The background started off with a spritz of Dylusions ink sprays in the new colours except White Linen, which I added as a second layer sprayed through a piece of sequin waste. I added a couple of other back ground layers with paint and pens and adorned with the ladies cut with a Cricut using the Forever Young cartridge. The 1st was painted with Calypso Teal. The other has a dress painted in Bubblegum Pink one of the original colours. A few words a bit of ribbon and a couple of embellishments and voila a couple of simple but funky tags.

All the colours of both products are still currently available in the shop so call in an get them while they last. Alternatively give us a ring and we will be happy to post them to you.

Birds canvas

I am suppose to be stock taking, so it is a good excuse to craft and blog instead. I will have to get around to the stock taking before the weekend as we are off to a trade show at the weekend. We are sure to see and order loads of lovely new things for the shop and that will be another excuse to play when the new stock arrives

Below is a little bird canvas that  made a couple of weeks ago .

4 little square canvases were painted with acrylic paint in contrasting colours.
The birds are cut from card using a Cricut Machine and two were coated with Distress crackle and when dry swiped over with Tarnished Brass Distress stain. I added a few embellishments from the shop shelves and some bits of table confetti (we always seem to have various bits laying about as get left on the boat) The heart and key charms attached to the bottom of the canvases were painted with Vintaj Patinas to match the canvas colours. The top canvases are attached to the bottom with eyelets and rings and I made a hanger from wire that was lying around looking useful. The words are by William Blake and Say 'No bird soars too high if he soars with his own wings.'

Ok! I've played (more of that in another post) and blogged now it's back to the stocktaking and some sort of shopping list so I don't end up spending my last shirt button at the weekend.

Craft Show - Jan 2013 - Don Valley Stadium

This weekend (and part of last week) saw us packing boxes full of lots of yummy crafting goodies, unpacking them and then repacking what was left on Sunday to return to the store.

You guessed it - we went to the craft fair at Don Valley Stadium this Sunday.

It was a fun day that goes far too quick, great to chat to friends both old and  new.

I forgot to take the camera but I have some pictures from last November.

Although we thought we had most products on the stand, I still uttered the words
'we have some in stock at the shop',
 far too many times.

So my thought for the one in June is, let me know what you need in advance and we will bring it with us (or order it for you.)

Happy crafting.

it's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring

A belated Happy New Year to all of you we haven't yet seen this year.

January starts a 5 month long epic of birthdays, both staff and family before we get a break then it all starts again in August.
Paul has just had his birthday not quite an O one that's next year. For some reason both Dorrie and I picked the same sentiment unknown to each other, I wonder if it is our state of mind or a comment on the birthday boy.

Dorrie used her favorite Tim Holtz Distressed inks and Stampendous Steampunk owl stamp, I used Stampendous' Cardinal birds stamp and my new set of Prismacolor pencils (what a lovely Christmas Present)
The word stamp says 'It's better to be absolutely ridiculous than absolutely boring'

All the products used are available at the shop.
