Merry Christmas

Well! it's official we are now closed for the holidays.
The last pint has been pulled, the last Santa cruise successfully completed and the last craft gifts and holiday craft essentials sold.

As well as being a busy month it has also been quite eventful with me being quarantined  for 3 days at the beginning of the month with the winter sickness bug,  Luckily we were fairly well organised and in between the shop and events in the bar and on the boat thanks to the staff we each managed to see Tally in her first ice show a couple of times. She had been training very hard and much to her relief she performed her routines without any mistakes. All of the skaters were fantastic. Back to reality with a bump with Granddad Peter being poorly and taking to his bed most unusual for him.  Then I picked up his man flu or some other bug and to be honest for the last week every thing has been an effort as soon as I have got home have been asleep before my after work cup of tea is finished, and for those who know me know I hate to waste a good cup of tea.

Other than the essentials for workshops etc I have not made any time for crafting, which makes me depressed as crafting lifts my spirits so this afternoon instead of tidying the shop, which incidentally looks like a tornado has hit it I have made some Christmas Decorations.

I am not really a wreath person but I saw these wooden hearts and I thought that they would make unusual Christmas wreaths. Dorrie says they look more like a Valentine project but I like the colours and the use of embellishments that are not overtly Christmas Decorations

They are now hung in my boat and I have even found the holiday lights. It felt like too much of an effort but I am glad I did.

I also made one of my tags for Tim's 12 tags of 2012, I might even finish the other one as I am being a sad poorly bear an am not going out on Christmas Eve. As of 8pm I still haven;t made my personal Christmas Cards and I guess now it will be New Years cards instead.

Anyway I really must stop wittering, so to all our customer past present and future we wish you a Very Merry Christmas and A happy New Year

'Girlfriends' more Tequila!

I love it when a new parcel arrives in the shop, checking off the goods and arranging the products in the shop, picking products to use in workshops and to make samples with.I just couldn't resist playing with the Art Impression Girl friend stamps that arrived in store the other day but. which to choose. I like them all they are so witty.

I have so many ideas but not a lot of spare time this week so this is just a quick offering. I choose the Dancers set. I coloured the stamp in pencils and mounted the image onto textured mirri card and then onto black card stock. I love the sentiments in this range.

When I have another play, I will add more pictures to this post.

Happy crafting until next we meet.

Happy Boxes

Dorrie and I went to a Woodware retailers event a couple of weeks ago. It is nice to see products and other peoples ideas for the products. One of the projects completed was taught by Fran Seifold (Stampendous) using one of her fun stamps and some of her delightful Frantage range of embossing  powders and enamels(to see the stampendous range and lots of great inspirational ideas click here)

The blue box was completed on the day. The red smaller box I completed in a little spare time in the shop, a simple idea that looks great. The boxes come convientiently packaged in 2's and along with the stamps and embossing products used they are available in the shop. I used Frantage aged scarlet embossing enamel to cover the wooden box and Snow bird stamp by Stampendous.

3 Wise Owls

As some of you might know we like the odd biog challenge and one that we all participate in is Tim Holtz 12 Tags of 2012 (for details see here) This month we all decided to use the same stamp (Stampendous Steam punk Owl) each tag is very different and all from the same basic products the previously mentioned stamp and some metal. We each added our own twist but most products used can be found in store.

Tally's(aka mouse) our 9 year old crafter's tag is on the left. mine is in the middle and Dorrie's is on the right (full details of the techniques used can be found on our individual blog sites)
We hope you enjoy if you do why not hop on over to Tim's site(there is a link above ) and join in the fun.

Happy crafting

Workshops Sept-Oct 2012

As normal life is running along with us jogging just a few steps behind.  I think we would all like to fit in a few more jobs in to the time we have, but realising this is not a reality, we settle for doing our best. By climbing our mountain at a steady rate, when we reach the top we will have enough breath left to appreciate the view. (I think I will use that/my quote on a journal page)

This weekend along with the normal number of boat trips we fitted in retailing at one of our local craft shows at Don Valley Stadium the next one being in November.  It was a little quieter than the one in June, but it gave Georgina a chance to chat to both new and old customers, and finish a couple of demo pieces.

Monday a quite day at the Quays Georgina finished the Workshop Programme for September and October.  Which I have uploaded today on both our main site (until the craft one is finished) and created a new page on the blog, just go via the tab at the top of the page.  The new page needs a few photo's but that will be later in the month (see I now made that into a no pressure job).

The store is full of stock with no space for a large craft table, so we use the boat whenever it is not out tripping or the function room in 'The Quays 1819' bar, both have wheelchair access and great light areas for crafting.

Thought I would give you a few pictures of the boat in workshop mode.

Birthday chocolates.

Good to see everyone paying attention.

Now I want to know what was happening on the quayside!

Not bad managed to put two pictures of Georgina in. Big giggles

Thought I better put one in of me as well.  Us at a Rangers retailer workshop.

Happy Crafting.

Dorrie

Welcome

Welcome to the Quayside Crafts blog site Quayside Crafters.

We opened the craftshop several years ago now and we are currently working on the next phase of our craft business, which is the website, we hope to have all the glitches ironed out and the site operational shortly. In the meantime we thought we would let you know what is happening in our world by starting this blog feed.

We will post the new work shop programme here and let you know as new products come in etc. as well as a few of our projects, which we hope will inspire you to have a go with new products. and technicques.

A few introductions first.

Georgina, who has been crafting for most of her life and as Mouse says that's a very long time. She is in charge of the craft work shops and buying. If we don't have a product in store she is usually very good at sourcing it. Currently she is enjoying Art Journaling, anything Steampunk and Mixed Media collage and canvases. And is currently having a love hate relationship with altered books. Currently her favourite  products are Faber Castell Gelato's (available in store) Creamy paint sticks that look a bit like chap sticks.

Dorrie, another keen crafter is in charge of administration.  Her passions currently are creating backgrounds in her journal, collage and beading. At he moment her favourite product is 'everything' including paints of all kinds. Her wish list of products grows every day.

Mouse "I need one in every colour" is too young to work in the shop but is very good at advising us what she thinks we ought to stock and is very good at setting the price gun. Her crafting intrests at the moment are drawing and painting she loves partisipating in Tim's 12 tags of 2012 and always has an intresting spin on an idea. She loves distress inks, and is coverting a set of Distress Markers all of her own (Mummy says she will have a long wait) she will have to share with everybody else.
There are links to our personal blogs on the side bar.

Thank you for hoping along.
